Stopover: Animation by Neil Stubbings
I like this fast-paced and funny little cartoon about a driving emergency in outer space. The characters are expressive and silly. The ‘I have to pee urgently’ walk is hysterical. The computer animation has that nice cartoony/drawn look that always catches my eye. Neil Stubbings directed the film for LeMob Animation. Via Neatorama.

Aaron Kyle Brushart’s film is a glorious insult to good old American hick bigotry. The hand-drawn characters and the overall sketchy style of this perfectly timed film had me laughing pretty much throughout. It must have been fun to shoot that burger too! Just like in a commercial!

Comic About How Future Will See the Internet
I’ve pilfered the vault over at BoingBoing again because Cory Doctorow posted this hilarious comic by Stephen Collins about how a post-apocalyptic future world will view the Internet. The cartoonist does lots of work for the U.K.’s Prospect Magazine. I like the inky black outline drawings. Mr. Collins has an off-the-side kind of humor that takes me quite a while to actually get because I’m not always the brightest bulb. I’ve always felt that the best cartoonists are never immediately funny. It’s the slow-burn ones that put a little confusion into the picture that really get me.
Animation: Pigeon Pilfer
Animator Michael Stevenson of San Fransisco State University made this claymation cartoon. It’s short and sweet. Clay animation is very difficult to do well and this animator does it brilliantly. He gets a lot a character out of his clay and the film has a wonderful gentle humor that is very European in its flavor. The entire film was shot frame-by-frame with a digital SLR camera. There’s a behind-the-scenes web site where you can see photos of the film’s set.
Simon’s Cat: New Animated Episode
The new episode of Simon’s Cat is called Fly Guy. It’s by UK animator Simon Tofield. This hilarious cat absolutely must catch the fly. The cat is just unbelievably funny, especially the way it uses its paws. This cartoon is simply loaded with character-driven expressive humor.

Awkward Office Moment 1: An XtraNormal Animation
I’ve found a fantastic online 3D animation service called xtranormal.com. You choose characters and settings, then you write your little script and choose facial expressions, movements, camera angles, and sounds. When you’ve put it all together in a simple list, you press a button and in a few moments you have a movie! I think it’s very well done.

Funny AIG Bailout Cartoon
Cartoonist Matt Bors has posted a funny AIG cartoon on his blog. He’s got a whole site full of these. He was inspired for this strip by the AIG executive who recently resigned and whined about how the company was treating him. I guess I’d whine too if I woke up one day and realized I was evil.
Zoologic: Student Academy Award Cartoon
Nicole Mitchell made Zoologic in 2007 and it won the 2008 Student Academy Award. It’s a humorous story of an overzealous zookeeper who meets his match in a penguin and gorilla who lead a comic revolt against him.
