1960 Trailer for Jean-Luc Godard’s Breathless
This is a 1960 trailer for Jean-Luc Godard's exploding hand-grenade of a film, Breathless. It's a brilliant trailer that casually itemizes the best features of the movie. I am betting that Godard made the trailer himself. In other words, this would be an actual Godard film. That's him doing the male voice-over work. This is the same director who recently made a film trailer that compressed an entire film into four minutes of fast-forward.
Wong Kar-Wai’s New Film: The Grandmasters
Here is a beautiful trailer for Hong Kong master filmmaker Wong Kar-Wai's upcoming film, The Grandmasters. It appears to be a poetic take on the enduring and often ridiculous Kung Fu fantasy epic with actors spiraling impossibly in mid-air ballets that give slow-motion footage a bad name. Levitating humans who kick each other in the throat with dainty pointy-toes are not really very interesting. Lets see what Mr. Kar-Wai offers here. The trailer has some gorgeous stuff in it. Hopefully the director will keep his actors relatively anchored.
The Quixotic Videos of Steve Roden
Artbound produced this short documentary video about artist and video-maker Steve Roden whose recent work has taken inspiration from composer John Cage, philosopher Walter Benjamin and choreographer Martha Graham.
The artist says,
I think failure is one of the most important things you have as a maker because that’s when you learn the most and you realize what you want. It’s not just about doing something bitchin’.

Aelita Queen of Mars: First Russian Science Fiction Film 1924
This is regarded as being the first Soviet science fiction film. Made in 1924, it’s an operatic scenario involving a mysterious radio signal sent toward earth, a scientist who builds a spaceship to get to the red planet only to find a totalitarian state, and a dictator’s daughter who wants to lead a revolution. There’s even a hammer and sickle to go along with the establishment of a socialist republic on Mars.
The film combines outlandish stage scenery representing Mars with the gritty streets and factories of Moscow. There’s some really beautiful photography and truly absurd costumes throughout.
