Our little game is based upon the wonderful work of totally original horror and philosophy by Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley, Frankenstein; or, the Modern Prometheus.  It was published in 1818, when Shelley was 19.

If you are going to read one great horror novel, this is it. Here’s a book scan of the novel at the Internet Archive.  Here’s a download text version.

Here’s an excellent blog devoted to Frankenstein.

Horror Podcast: Fear on Demand

Fear on Demand is an excellent horror story podcast.  Their latest offering is Room 412 by Michael Laimo.  The narrator is Gord Mackenzie.  When a man checks into a hotel during a business trip he is irritated by a constant thumping from the room next door.  What’s making that noise?  His terror mounts as the circumstances around room 412 become increasingly bizarre.

The story really had me sitting perfectly still with complete dread.

This story is not for very young listeners.

The Pothole: Audio Horror Story from Well Told Tales

Mature Content

The Pothole is the latest offering from Well Told Tales, a blog specializing in the production of pulp fiction podcasts.  They have recently transitioned from offering only their own audio productions to allowing users to upload their own audio stories, films and written stories.  It’s an excellent idea.

I had a blast listening to The Pothole a few evenings ago.  It’s genuinely disturbing and offers a unique perspective on its genre.  I won’t tell you which genre it is because I don’t want to spoil the suspense for you.  The writing by Kris Ashton hooks you immediately.  His characters are vivid.  The story is pulp fiction at its best.  The narrator is John Wooley, actor, author, film teacher and columnist.  His reading is superb, with a relaxed and gravelly voice that lets the story unwind with just the right touch of dread.

These guys are very accomplished and are making some of the best audio stories I’ve heard anywhere.  Give Well Told Tales a visit.

Old-Time Radio Horror

Enjoy the terrors of these classic old-time radio horror productions. These are some of the tales that people used to spend their evenings listening to back in the 1930s and 40s. What a treat for a stormy night! You’ll stay up very late listening to these frightening dramas.

We’ve got stories from ‘Frankenstein’ to Edgar Allen Poe’s ‘The Pit and the Pendulum’ to Orson Welles’ original ‘War of the Worlds’ broadcast.

These incredible stories feature the voices of Boris Karloff, Peter Lorre, Agnes Moorehead, Basil Rathbone, Barbara Stanwyck, Ray Milland, Vincent Price, and Orson Welles.

Have a fantastic listen!
