A mouse in the grass ran about,
\nStopping by the water spout.
\nNibbling on something I could barely see,
\nAnd didn\u2019t seem to notice me.<\/p>\n

Not realizing he was trapped,
\nHe just chewed on his meal tightly wrapped.
\nTo get the mouse\u2019s attention, I threw a pebble his way,
\nBut he kept to his meal without sway.<\/p>\n

Again and again I tried, but to no effect;
\nFeeling put-off and puzzled by his disrespect.
\nBut something changed inside me, as the mouse finally looked up;
\nHis eyes were innocent and curious, like that of a newborn pup.<\/p>\n

He didn\u2019t seem to mind, my being there;
\nBarely gave a look, much less a stare.
\nThen off he went back to the grass, nary a glance at me;<\/p>\n

I learned later he got glasses, and now can clearly see.<\/p>\n
