{"id":2735,"date":"2009-11-03T22:46:46","date_gmt":"2009-11-04T05:46:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.candlelightstories.com\/?p=2735"},"modified":"2009-11-09T09:04:05","modified_gmt":"2009-11-09T16:04:05","slug":"reverend-billy-wants-new-york-city-and-he-can-have-it","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/candlelightstories.com\/Blog\/2009\/11\/03\/reverend-billy-wants-new-york-city-and-he-can-have-it\/","title":{"rendered":"Reverend Billy Wants New York City and He Can Have It"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"youtube-video\"><object classid=\"clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000\" width=\"480\" height=\"300\" codebase=\"http:\/\/download.macromedia.com\/pub\/shockwave\/cabs\/flash\/swflash.cab#version=6,0,40,0\"><param name=\"src\" value=\"http:\/\/blip.tv\/play\/hNN_gavmJgI%2Em4v\" \/><param name=\"wmode\" value=\"transparent\" \/><param name=\"allowfullscreen\" value=\"true\" \/><embed type=\"application\/x-shockwave-flash\" width=\"480\" height=\"300\" src=\"http:\/\/blip.tv\/play\/hNN_gavmJgI%2Em4v\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" wmode=\"transparent\"><\/embed><\/object><\/div>\n<p>This is a short documentary called <em>The Gospel According to Reverend Billy<\/em>, from an outfit called <a href=\"http:\/\/www.humansyndicate.com\/\"><em>Syndicate of Human Image Traffickers<\/em><\/a>.\u00a0 This guy looks like a preacher but he&#8217;s decidedly against what most preachers seem to be preaching in our angelic little country.\u00a0 He&#8217;s <em>Reverend Billy<\/em> and he&#8217;s running for mayor in New York City.\u00a0 He thinks <em>Mayor Bloomberg<\/em> is a corporate Wall Street guy who represents the takeover of the monoculture.\u00a0 He&#8217;s right.\u00a0 I lived in New York for eight years in the 1980s.\u00a0 I remember it as being rough, exciting, nervous, overly work-oriented, and dirty.\u00a0 I visited just a few months ago.\u00a0 It&#8217;s now an open-air mall with a Starbucks and a Gap.\u00a0 Gee, thanks Rudi Guiliani for your cleanup.\u00a0 Micky Mouse would feel right at home on Times Square.\u00a0 New York is also home to the several thousand creeps on Wall Street who are personally responsible for trashing the U.S. economy and running criminal scams on a worldwide scale.\u00a0 Well, at least we know where they all live, right?\u00a0 When I lived in the city I worked with many different types of people in many businesses.\u00a0 I would always give the same advice to my friends and acquaintances who were looking for jobs: <em>Never Never Never work for the money people.\u00a0 They are vicious and very poorly educated<\/em>.\u00a0 I recall working for one of the biggest real estate investors in all of New York.\u00a0 He owned some of the famous big buildings.\u00a0 He was also prone to throwing insults around and yelling at employees.\u00a0 He spent eight hours per day for a full week having meetings in his office about the design for his new closet at home.\u00a0 On Friday at about 1:00 pm he emerged to ask me about a pile of papers I was supposed to have finished that week.\u00a0 I had put them all untouched in a pile that I labeled &#8216;Complete.&#8217;\u00a0 He picked them up and riffled through them for several minutes.\u00a0 Then he threw them at me and screamed, &#8216;What the f&#8212; do you think you&#8217;re doing?&#8217;\u00a0 I picked up the phone while giving him a giant smile and called my employment agency.\u00a0 I said, &#8216;I&#8217;m going to put you on the phone with Mr.____ and I&#8217;d like you to tell him to kiss my ass.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>As I walked down the hall, he was screaming at the top of his lungs, &#8216;Don&#8217;t you people ever even think about sending an a-hole like that over here again!&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>Yep, that&#8217;s the kind of New York SOB I was back in the 80s.\u00a0 And I haven&#8217;t learned a thing.\u00a0 I&#8217;d still do it on any sunny Friday afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>New York has about as much cultural energy now as Dallas, Texas.\u00a0 It&#8217;s like a zombie apocalypse in Manhattan.\u00a0 Everyone looks like they&#8217;re trudging to the office on a Sunday.\u00a0 The East Side &#8211;
