The Moth Approached Me Like a Blinking Eye<\/strong><\/p>\n

The moth approached me like a blinking eye,
\nI was having a cigarette in the garage.
\nThe birds squeaked in the far off darkness,
\na menacing sound disrupting the night.<\/p>\n

I pressed the moth to give me her reasons
\nfor staying up as late as she did–
\nShe continued to blink, and I awaited her answer,
\nbut nothing came.<\/p>\n

The birds heckled the darkness and the darkness
\nheckled back–the chaos persisted but
\nremained subdued and the neighbors
\nstayed in bed.<\/p>\n

The children, in their warm beds,
\nwere dreaming of magical places,
\nand I bemoaned my condition
\nwhile having my cigarette in the garage.<\/p>\n

I thought of summer, which was expected
\nto come, maybe tomorrow or never,
\nI figured I’d be sleeping when it did.
\nI thought of the hours I’d missed.<\/p>\n

The moth returned after awhile,
\nshe blinked her wings again and again,
\nShe seemed to know I had a mild fever,
\nshe seemed to know my memories too.<\/p>\n

Let me go, I said. Be off. I want to sleep.<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
