Sascha Cooper<\/em> is our Little Poetry Contest winner.\u00a0 Her poem, A Blank Canvas<\/em>, is a meditation on the power of creativity in normal surroundings.\u00a0 We didn’t get many poems for the contest so it only makes sense to pick a single winner.\u00a0 Perhaps more poets will want to enter the next Little Poetry Contest.\u00a0 But this poem would stand out in any group of poems.\u00a0 Actually, I was quite surprised to receive a poem this good during the very first contest.<\/p>\n

A Blank Canvas<\/strong><\/p>\n

Inspiration comes from all seeing eyes.
\nLet the imagination run wild
\nWith all colours that light up at night.<\/p>\n

Outside the window looms a palace
\nWith domes that stretch up to the sky.
\nStuck in time, yet current;<\/p>\n

Transporting me back to a time of
\nPrinces, kings and queens.
\nArabian nights coax and tempt me.<\/p>\n

Back in the land of reality,
\nThe box is blaring, mum is cooking
\nAnd my best friend is next to me.<\/p>\n

The computer is on a small table
\nThat was a shelf – makeshift, but handy.
\nDrink and numerous papers at my side.<\/p>\n

White walls, sleek lines;
\nCarpet that\u2019s light and not right,
\nSliding doors of black and silver.<\/p>\n

All this in a box of glass
\nReady to be personalised.
