Just So Stories
by Rudyard Kipling

Because these stories were written at the very beginning of the twentieth century, there are some things in them pertaining to race and culture that are rather offensive. The stories must be read with an understanding of the extremely backward and socially dangerous attitudes prevalent in Britain and the United States at the time. There are attitudes expressed in Kipling's work that frankly warrant intense criticism. However, his work has an important place in world literature and should be studied for both its value and its limited perspective.
